Hepatitis A and Home Health Care.How it can be prevented.

Hepatitis A is a severe liver illness It is brought on by the hepatitis A virus.This virus causes liver inflammation and affect its ability to function.

The most common ways for this kind of virus to spread are through tainted food and water.

Additionally, it can spread by intimate contact with an infected person or thing.

Mild cases of this infection don’t require treatment. Most patients who are infected recover completely with no permanent liver damage.

Symptoms

They typically appear few weeks after transmission of virus into body. But not everyone with hepatitis A develops symptoms. If you do symptoms can include:

  • The patient feels unusually tired and weak.
  • Sudden nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
  • Abdominal pain or discomfort, especially in the upper right side under the patient’s lower ribs.
  • Clay or grey coloured stools.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • The patient has a low grade fever.
  • Dark urine.
  • Multiple joint pain.
  • Yellowing of the skin and whites of the patient’s eyes(jaundice).
  • Intense itching.

Prevention of Hepatitis A

  • Wash all fresh fruits and vegetables in bottled water and peel them with clean hands.
  • Patient attendant should try to avoid giving pre cut fruits and vegetables to the patient.
  • Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat and fish.
  • Medical Caregiver can give bottled water to the patient and use it while brushing the teeth.
  • Avoid all beverages of unknown purity.
  • If bottled water is not available, boil tap water before drinking it or using it to make ice.
