Home Nursing Services and Respiratory Care

Home Nursing Services has a very important role in Respiratory care. Before movie further let’s have a brief review of this system. The respiratory system is that part of the body in which the organs and other parts are involved mainly in breathing.

Normally, the body consumes oxygen and emits carbon dioxide. Parts of the respiratory system:

  • Nose and nasal cavity
  • Sinuses
  • Mouth
  • Throat(pharynx)
  • The voice box (larynx).
  • Windpipe
  • Diaphragm
  • Lungs
  • Bronchial tube
  • Air sacs
  • Capillaries

How do we breathe?

Breathing starts when you inhale air through your nose or mouth. It enters the windpipe after passing through the back of the throat. The bronchial tubes that divide this windpipe are responsible for breathing.

For your lungs to perform at their best, these airways need to be open.As the bronchial tubes pass through your lungs, they divide into smaller air passages called bronchioles.

The bronchioles end in tiny balloons like air sacs. The alveoli are surrounded by a mesh of tiny vessels called capillaries. Here, oxygen from the inhaled air passes into your blood.

Respiratory system diseases

  • Asthma: the patient’s airways narrow and make too much mucus.
  • Bronchiectasis: Inflammation and infection make the patient’s bronchial walls thicker.
  • Pneumonia: An infection causes inflammation in the patient’s tiny air sacs. They might fill up with fluid or pus.
  • Tuberculosis: A bacterium affects the patient’s lungs but might also involve the kidney, spine, or brain.
  • Lung cancer occurs when cells in the patient’s lung change and grow into a tumour.
  • Cystic fibrosis: This disease is caused by a problem in the patient’s genes and gets worse over time.
