Role of Medical Attendant in Elderly fall is very important.Backward falling while walking is very common. It is observed  especially in elders, but at the same time, these falls create many complications. There is always a risk of fracture, and we know that in the case of the elderly, the healing process is prolonged. Repeated falling is a sign of underlying medical condition. Backward falling is a postural disorder in which a person falls mostly on their backside.Backward disequilibrium is medical term for this problem.

What are the main causes of backward falling?

  • There is always a lack of coordination between two legs.
  • Improper sensation in both feet.
  • Muscle mass loss gives rise to fatigued and loss of stamina.
  • Prolonged lying down in bed can result in low BP whenever there is an attempt to stand.
  • Cerebral ataxia  This is a brain problem that affects the patient’s balance in particular.

What can happen if you fall backwards?

  • It can result in head and back injuries, especially at the disc level, which take a long time to heal.
  • The risk of fracture, especially to the vertebrae, can create a problematic situation for the patient.

How can medical attendant avoid falling?

  • Sit for 2 to 3 minutes whenever you are coming from a lying position to a standing position; it will help in maintaining your blood pressure.
  • Thighs and Glutei Strengthening exercise programme is very helpful.
  • Always keep a support, like Walker, in front of your body to prevent falling.
  • Balance exercises or very helpful things like
  • Lift one leg alternatively.
  • Stand with both feet together and hold it for 15 seconds.
  • Try to walk backwards with a starting count of 10 steps.
  • Practice sideways walking.
